The SLB is a Xenon Strobe Light Beacon. It can be deployed for very long time in water depth up to 6000 m. If one uses the Kantseals, which are standard from the factory, the mooring time is mainly limited by the self-discharge of the batteries.

The beacon helps the finding of deep-sea landers and underwater moorings that have been released acoustically on a specific command or other surfaced marine platforms as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) or autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). This assistance is useful at nighttime and on line of sight conditions. With additional equipment of the Marine Recovery Beacon series of products, one has the means to recover one's instruments at any time under any environmental circumstances. All products use the same titanium housing with the double axial seals and the trigger construction by a pressure switch. When submerged the strobe is inactive and will switch on when surfaced. For better direct one's attention to the flasher one can adjust permanent or periodic burst flashes. All kind of D type batteries can be used. The number of flashes is depending on the chemistry of the battery from 50 000 to 400 000 at full intensity for one set of batteries. Optional is the automatic adjustment to a constant number of flashes. Then the intensity and the flash rate are determined internally from the used type of battery.
